University of Malaya (UM), is the foremost and premier Research University (RU) in Malaysia. It is a multidisciplinary RU that has more than 27,000 students and 1700 academic staff with 17 faculties and research centres which covers the whole spectrum of learning from the Arts, Sciences and Humanities. The university's beginning at the Kuala Lumpur campus dates back to 1957 and thus far has a huge alumni of over 100,000, among them renowned and illustrious personalities and leaders in various fields.
The Malaysian Physics Institute (Institut Fizik Malaysia or IFM) is the sole representative body for physicists and for those involved in the practice of physics or physics related work in Malaysia. It's objectives are:
-
Promotion of the advancement of physics.
-
Promotion of activities that will bring together members to co-operate in the fields of education, training and practice of physics
-
Elevation of the professional status of physcists.
The ASEAN College of Medical Physics (ACOMP) was born in 24th October 2014 at the 12th Southeast Asian Congress of Medical Physics held in Ho Chi Minh City. The vision is to make the ACOMP the premier education and training centre for medical physics in the ASEAN region. To achieve the vision, members will galvanise their talents to develop sustainable activities, and will take advantage of information and communications technologies to achieve their goals. Some future activities are being planned by ACOMP:
-
Schools on Monte Carlo simulation
-
Advanced radiation dosimetry
-
Radiation emergency and disaster management
-
Nonionizing radiation protection
